Samurai Story One: “A strong will can even pierce stone”

Long time ago there is a Samurai and his fiancé. Both were deeply in love. One day the girl was walking through a forest. Suddenly a Tiger attacked her and killed her.

Young Samurai From the depths of his sorrow vowed to revenge his beloved, by seeking out the tiger and killing it.
He took his arrow and sought out into the forest. He searched month after month. He searched daily. After many days he saw a tiger sleeping in the forest.

Young samurai drew his bow, carefully take the aim and released the arrow which found its mark. The arrow pierced the tiger’s body deeply. Again the samurai took another arrow and released to confirm the death of the tiger.

But unfortunately the arrow missed the target. It stuck deeply into a stone and broke it into two parts!

After this villagers   become amazed. They started talking about his strength.

Thee villagers requested him to pierced the stone again. But the next time he can’t broke the stone. In the past his resolve had been so profound that he was actually able to physically pierce a stone with his arrow. However, now under different circumstances, he was unable to repeat the same feat.

Samurai Story Two: Comparison

There was a very famous Samurai. He was very proud for his strength and wisdom. One day he came to see a Zen Master. Looking at the beauty and wisdom of the Zen master the samurai felt inferior.
He asked the Zen master, Why I am feeling inferior after seeing you Master? When I entered your court suddenly I felt inferior, But I have never felt like this before. I have faced death many times, But never felt any kind of fear, Why now I am feeling frightened?
The Master said, "Wait. When everyone else has gone, I will answer. "


The Zen master replied calmly, Wait, I will answer you when everyone else has gone.

Whole day the samurai wait there. People continued to come and go whole day. Samurai getting more and more tired. By evening the room became empty. The samurai asked the Zen master, now answer me?


Zen master take the samurai outside. It was a full moonlit night. The master says, Look at those trees. The trees are high and this small one beside it. They both have here for long days. But there is no problem in them. The smaller tree never says to the big, why do I feel inferior before you? Why have I never heard a whisper of it?

The samurai replied, You never heard because they can’t compare to each other.

The Zen master replied, “Than you need not to ask me why you feel inferior before me. You know the answer.


Samurai Story Three: Destiny

A Japanese Samurai decided to attack his enemy through his army was greatly outnumbered. His enemy was very strong. So his men were filled with doubt. But he was sure about wining.

One the way to the battle, the samurai stopped in a temple to pray. After praying he says to his men that he will now toss a coin. If it is heads they will, and if its come trail they will loose.

He tossed the coin and it come HEADS!

The soldiers were overjoyed. They attacked the enemy fiercely and win in the battle.

After the battle the king says, NO one can the Destiny, So we win with our few people.

Quite right, The Samurai Replied. And showed his coin which had heads in both sides!


Samurai/Zen Story Four: True happiness and Prosperity
A rich man goes to a Zen master and asked him to write something down that could encourage the prosperity of his family for years to come.
On a white of paper, the master wrote, "Father dies, son dies, grandson dies."
The rich man became very angry After seeing the paper. He shouted
"I asked you to write something that could bring happiness and prosperity to my family. But Why do you writing this kind of depressing words?"

Zen master Replied, "If your son should die before you, this would bring unbearable sadness to your family. If your Grandson die before your son, this also bring sadness and sorrow. Only you can get true happiness and prosperity if things happens according to my writing. First Father dies, then son dies, then grandson dies.


Samurai Story Five:  Empty The Cup First

A university professor went to visit a famous Zen master to learn something about Zen. While master is serving tea to the professor start talking about Zen. The master poured the visitor cup to the brim and he kept pouring. The professor watched this. The cup is full and overflowing. He said, Its overfull master. Stop it.
Master smilingly replied, You’re like this cup. How can you pour something about Zen in you. First Empty your Cup.
